The busy and vibrant Dundee is the fourth largest city in Scotland. With a population of just under 148,500, Dundee is the perfect place for a lively city break. The city is often billed as one of “jute, jam and journalism”, three of its largest industries.
Dundee lies within the eastern central lowlands, sitting on the north bank of the Firth of Tay, meaning beautiful, coastal views. Originally part of the Angus council area, Dundee developed into a burgh in the 12th century, before becoming a city in the 1500s.
Dundee has two professional football teams – Dundee United and Dundee F.C. – who’s stadiums lie all but adjacent to each other, meaning you can get the full Dundonian football experience, without having to travel from one edge of the city to the other.
Promoted as “One City, Many Discoveries”, Dundee is full of wondrous attractions: the majestic ships HMS Frigate Unicorn and RRS Discovery; the educational and inspiring V&A Museum of Design and Dundee Contemporary Arts Centre; the dominating extinct volcano – The Law; and the impressive, magnificent castles Broughty and Claypotts.
