Stornoway is a beautiful town on the Isle of Lewis. Founded by Vikings in the early 9th century, Stornoway was originally known by the Old Nose name Stjórnavágr.
Sheltered around a natural harbour, inhabitants from every corner of the Isle of Lewis would travel to Stornoway, as a means to travel and trade with Mainland Scotland.
One of the main attractions of Stornoway, is the annual Celtic music festival, Hebridean Celtic Festival. “HebCelt” has played host to various acts over the years, most notably; The Proclaimers and the Red Hot Chilli Pipers. The picturesque, neo-gothic Lews Castle dominates the skyline over the Stornoway Harbour. Whether you’re visiting the castle’s Museum nan Eilean, which features the history of Stornoway and the Isle of Lewis, or you’re just enjoying the views, Lews Castle offers an interesting, educational and fun experience.
This visitor centre beside the world-famous Calanais Standing Stones is home to an exhibition, café and gift shop. Located in the west coast of Lewis, the 5,000 year old Callanish Stones are famous all over the world.
