Wick a beautiful, coastal town in Caithness, Scotland. Coming from the Gaelic Inbhir Ùige, the town merged with the neighbouring Pulteneytown in 1902, with the River Wick running through the centre and extending along both sides of Wick Bay. With a population around 7,000, this is perfect for a quiet getaway to take in some refreshing sea air.
Wick holds the Guinness World Record for world’s shortest street, with Ebenezer Place measuring at 2.06 metres. The Highland council area local newspapers The John O’Groat Journal and The Caithness Courier are based in Wick. One of Wick’s main attractions is the Castle of Old Wick, built in the 12th century when the Norwegian earldom of Orkney included Caithness. One of the oldest castles in Scotland, all that remains of the structure is the dominating four-storey tower, known as the Old Man of Wick.
